SMT makes healthcare simple… …through products that offer mobility, that are easy to operate, and that allow residents and home users to improve their quality of life in a dignified manner… …and through attentive, one-on-one service.
In 1972, Richard LeCleir and his wife Susan founded a small tool and die company that became known as Sunrise Machine and Tool (SMT). Over the next four decades, the company would grow to become SMT Health Systems, Inc. The LeCleir’s were approached in 1988 by healthcare professionals who wanted us to design a lifting device that was safer and easier to use than those on the market at the time. They also developed the first battery-operated full-body patient lift in the United States. This prompted officials of a nursing home to ask us to design an electric sit-to-stand lift in 1991. Their innovations helped change the entire patient lift industry. The PAL (Professional Assistant Lift) line of products became the company’s primary growth segment. Our line of lifts and stands was renamed Volaro in 2003.
We continue to develop and offer new products, and recently enhanced our healthcare line with the addition of the revolutionary Rock-King rocking wheelchair.
SMT’s ongoing success in the patient-lift marketplace reflects our superior products and customer service, along with our ability to quickly adapt customer feedback into product innovations. With new products and services in development, we will continue to serve the healthcare industry and the home care market with the same high standards our customers have come to expect from SMT Health Systems. |
